Our God is Powerful and Eternal

Psalm 48 is a descriptive Psalm of God’s glory and power. Jehovah is worthy to be praised by His holy people in His holy city. God brought high honor to the city of Jerusalem by His presence. The Mighty God offers protection to the righteous. Anyone who opposes God or His people will face certain loss. There have been many demonstrations of God’s love, kindness and mercy. The world is invited to investigate God and His people, "For this is God, Our God forever and ever; He will be our guide even to death." (Psalm 48:14) Each person must have a saving knowledge of God. An unknown God will never be served, loved, trusted nor worshipped. The foundation of our faith is belief in God, "for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him." (Hebrews 11:6)

Understanding some attributes of God should deepen our faith in Him. Eliphaz the Temanite was one of the three men that Job called “miserable comforters.”  However, Eliphaz did say some very wise things. He said of God, "Now acquaint yourself with Him, and be at peace; Thereby good will come to you." (Job 22:21)

Our God is self-existent. He does not and did not have to depend on any other for anything. "For as the Father has life in Himself, so He has granted the Son to have life in Himself." (John 5:26) All life originates with God. He is the living God, in opposition to idols which have no life. We “preach unto you that ye should turn from these vanities (idols) unto the living God, which made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all things that are therein.” (Acts 14:15) God is not a created being. He is Creator. “And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.” (Genesis 1:31) God is the great "I AM" of Exodus 3:14.

Our God is eternal. God had no beginning and He will have no end. "But the Lord shall endure forever; He has prepared His throne for judgment." (Psalm 9:7) God has always been and always will be. God is the everlasting God and He offers eternal life to those that obey Him. “Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered; And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him.” (Hebrews 5:8-9)

Our God is infinite: God is the all-knowing, ever-present, all-powerful ruler of heaven and earth! God is Omnipresent (ever-present.) (Psalm 139) God is Omniscient (knows everything.) (Daniel 2:22) God is Omnipotent (all powerful.) “With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.” (Matthew 19:26) It just makes sense to serve God.

Our God is immutable or unchangeable: Malachi 3:6 says, "For I am the Lord, I do not change." The fact that God gave a New Testament or New Covenant of grace and truth does not mean that He has changed His counsels. On the contrary, this was simply the fulfillment of His everlasting purposes. When He removed the Mosaic Covenant to introduce the great and glorious Gospel of His Son it was a continuation of His original plan. Neither God's character, attributes nor is His counsel changeable. God remains forever the same true God, unchangeable in His goodness and truth.

"There is beyond the azure blue, a God, concealed from human sight, He tinted skies with heav'nly hue -- and framed the worlds with His great might. There was, a long, long time ago, a God whose voice the prophets heard, He is the God that we should know, who speaks from His inspired word. Secure, is life from mortal mind, God holds the germ within His hand, Tho' men may search, they cannot find, for God alone does understand. Our God, whose Son upon a tree, a life was willing there to give, That He from sin might set men free, and evermore with Him could live. There is a God, He is alive, in Him we live, and we survive; From dust our God created man, He is our God, the great I AM!"

To begin your Christian life hear the gospel (Romans 10:17), believe in Jesus (John 8:24), repent of your sins (Luke 13:3), confess Jesus as Lord (Romans 10:9-10) and be baptized into Christ. "For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ." (Galatians 3:26-27) After being washed in the blood of Jesus at baptism be among those that have a strong faith in the one true God. “And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God.” (Mark 11:22)
