Waiting in Line

Every day most of us wait in line for something. Whether it is a line in a fast food restaurant, at a red light, or any number of other things for which one might wait. We wait in these lines because we believe that when we reach its end, the reward will be worth our time and effort. What line are you waiting in?  When you reach the end of the line in your physical life, what will be your reward?

Each of us is waiting in one of two lines. One line leads to heaven and eternal reward (Romans 6:23), while the other leads to hell and everlasting punishment (Matthew 25:46.) We determine the line in which we are advancing by the way that we live our lives.

To be added to the line that leads to heaven, you must meet certain qualifications. You must hear and believe the gospel of Christ. (Romans 10:17; John 8:24) Then you must repent and turn away from the sin in your life. (Luke 13:3.) Next, you must confess that Jesus Christ is God’s Son.  (Romans 10:9-10; Acts 8:37)  Then you are ready to be baptized to have your sins washed away. (Acts 22:16) These steps will put you in line for eternal reward, but you must remain faithful until death to remain therein.  (Revelation 2:10.)

To be added to the line that leads to hell is quite simple. There are no real conditions to being put in this line. All you need to do is live for yourself. Disregard what God has said in His word and live the way you want to live. You’ll never have to worry about whether or not you’re still in this line, because unless you are preparing to be in heaven’s line, this is most assuredly the one of which you are a part. But be aware that your reward will consist of fiery punishment for all of eternity. (II Thessalonians 1:8-9.)

We never know when our lives will end.  Live every day as if it were your last. Then when the end comes there will be no surprise in where your line leads.
