Who Is The King Of Glory?

Psalm Twenty Four–

"The earth is the LORD'S, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein. For he hath founded it upon the seas, and established it upon the floods. Who shall ascend into the hill of the LORD? or who shall stand in his holy place? He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully. He shall receive the blessing from the LORD, and righteousness from the God of his salvation. This is the generation of them that seek him, that seek thy face, O Jacob. Selah. Lift up your heads, O ye gates; and be ye lift up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in. Who is this King of glory? The LORD strong and mighty, the LORD mighty in battle. Lift up your heads, O ye gates; even lift them up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in. Who is this King of glory? The LORD of hosts, he is the King of glory. Selah." (Psalms 24:1-10)

Psalm 22, Psalm 23 and Psalm 24 all focus on Jesus Christ. Psalm 22 pictures Christ as Savior. Psalm 23 pictures the Lord as my Shepherd. Psalm 24 pictures the Lord as Sovereign. The Lord has the right to rule because He is Sovereign. Those who dwell with the Lord must recognize His right to rule. He is the Lord of Hosts. He is the Lord of glory. Our God is a glorious and Mighty God. God is Lord of the earth and everything in it. It is His creation. Only those who are holy can enter into God’s presence. Our life should be used to honor and glorify God because He is mighty and glorious. God will bless those who seek His presence. Psalm 24 is a call for people to glorify God and honor Him.

The Sovereignty of the Almighty -- Psalm 24:1-2: The earth and everything in it belong to the Lord. He has a right to the earth and to all that it contains because He is Creator and Lord of all. The story of the creation is in Genesis one. There we learn that the world and the people therein were made by God and belong to Him. God has ownership over all things because He is Creator of all. We owe God our all because He is both creator and sustainer. He upholds all things by the word of His power. "Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high." (Hebrews 1:3) The fact that everything belongs to the Lord should affect worship and our every action.

Who may dwell with the Lord? -- Psalm 24:3-6: In Old Testament times the Lord taught the people that to come into His presence at the Temple that they should exhibit character above the ordinary. The expression "Clean hands and a pure heart" describes the character of one who could come before God. Only those who are willing for God to be in control of their heart and lives can dwell in His holy presence. Those who walk with God must be upright in conduct. The Lord is Sovereign; therefore He has the right to determine who will enter into eternity with Him. It should be obvious that if you worship idols and tell lies that you cannot go to heaven with God. The Lord saves and rewards those who worship and serve the God of Jacob. Let us all seek righteousness

The Entrance of the King of glory -- Psalm 24:7-10: Jehovah is the king of Glory. This psalm was possibly written when the Ark of the Covenant was brought to Jerusalem. The cry was that the gates be opened to the King of glory. The question was asked, "Who is the king of Glory?" The King of glory is Jehovah, strong and mighty, a God of power, Creator and owner of the earth.  The King of glory shows His power in overthrowing His enemies. "Who is this King of glory? The LORD strong and mighty, the LORD mighty in battle." "Who is this King of glory? The LORD of hosts, he is the King of glory." All of us need to know the King of glory better.

Let us learn the value of a righteous life. We must put our trust in God and be righteous by means of salvation through the blood of Jesus. Please accept God's wonderful good news that Jesus died for your sins. Will you be baptized into Christ to put on Christ so that your sins can be forgiven by His blood? "For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ." (Galatians 3:26-27) Believers contact Christ's saving blood by being baptized into His death. Those who become children of God are then in a position to lift up the excellent name of the Almighty.
