Trust God And Do Not Fear

Psalm Forty-Six

"God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah. There is a river, the streams whereof shall make glad the city of God, the holy place of the tabernacles of the most High. God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved: God shall help her, and that right early. The heathen raged, the kingdoms were moved: he uttered his voice, the earth melted. The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah. Come, behold the works of the LORD, what desolations he hath made in the earth. He maketh wars to cease unto the end of the earth; he breaketh the bow, and cutteth the spear in sunder; he burneth the chariot in the fire. Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth. The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah." (Psalm 46:1-11)

Psalm 46 is a song of praise to God who can always be trusted. When people have total faith in God they have no reason to fear. God is great and we should stand in awe before Him. He must be worshiped with reverence and praise. God gave Israel strength in difficult situations and He will do the same for us! Let us remember that "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble." (Psalm 46:1) When we face trouble in our lives let us run to God, our refuge and source of strength.

God is our refuge and strength -- Psalm 46:1-6: When troubles come we must flee to God for help. The Lord alone is our protection. God keeps us alive and gives us hope. We can rely upon God's promise, "I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee." (Hebrews 13:5) The difficult things in life come and go, but God is there continually. God is faithful; He will not forsake or abandon us. Let us live our lives with total confidence in God and His word. God is real, "Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea. (Psalm 46:2) God is our protector and defender. Peace was possible for Jerusalem because God was in her midst. Peace is likewise possible for us by having God in control of our life.

The Lord Almighty is with us -- Psalm 46:7-11: In total confidence the psalmist wrote, "The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge." (Psalm 46:7) The Mighty God who created and controls the universe is our God! Just as God created and brought about wondrous things He can likewise bring desolation on those who rebel against Him. He said, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” Let us understand that God is and that He will be exalted. We all have a tendency to be overwhelmed by circumstances that come against us. But let us remember what a Mighty God we serve! "The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge." (Psalm 46:11)

To begin your Christian life hear the gospel (Romans 10:17), believe in Jesus (John 8:24), repent of sins (Luke 13:3), confess Jesus as Lord (Romans 10:9-10) and be baptized into Christ. "For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ." (Galatians 3:26-27) After being washed in the blood of Jesus at baptism we can be among those who are blessed by daily Christian living.
