David Was A Praying Man

Psalm Five

"Give ear to my words, O LORD, consider my meditation. Hearken unto the voice of my cry, my King, and my God: for unto thee will I pray. My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O LORD; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up. For thou art not a God that hath pleasure in wickedness: neither shall evil dwell with thee. The foolish shall not stand in thy sight: thou hatest all workers of iniquity. Thou shalt destroy them that speak leasing: the LORD will abhor the bloody and deceitful man. But as for me, I will come into thy house in the multitude of thy mercy: and in thy fear will I worship toward thy holy temple. Lead me, O LORD, in thy righteousness because of mine enemies; make thy way straight before my face. For there is no faithfulness in their mouth; their inward part is very wickedness; their throat is an open sepulchre; they flatter with their tongue. Destroy thou them, O God; let them fall by their own counsels; cast them out in the multitude of their transgressions; for they have rebelled against thee. But let all those that put their trust in thee rejoice: let them ever shout for joy, because thou defendest them: let them also that love thy name be joyful in thee. For thou, LORD, wilt bless the righteous; with favour wilt thou compass him as with a shield." (Psalms 5:1-12)

Many of the Psalms are prayers and supplications to God which King David prayed in his times of trouble. When you read the psalms you quickly realize that David is a praying man. When you love God you can lie down and sleep in the peace.

David prayed unto God as to his King. (Psalm 5:1-3) As soon as David awakened in the morning he began to pray. David had taken Jehovah as his God. He depended on Him to protect him, save him and to bring joy to his life. He also looked upon God as his King. He was willing for God to rule and direct his life.

David prayed to God because God hates evil. (Psalm 5:4-6) God is not the kind of God who is pleased with evil. Evil men will never enter into the glory of God. God hates the workers or those that labour in iniquity. Iniquity is a lack of justice or righteousness. Even though God is mighty in love and mercy He hates the workers of iniquity. God will destroy every liar and He despises violence and deceit.

David prayed to God because God is merciful. (Psalm 5:7-9) When David thought about God or came into His house he did so in great wonder. He bowed before Him as he considered His mercy. He knew that God would both bless him and protect him from his evil enemies. David's desire was that God would lead him in the way of righteousness. We too should want God's truth so clear in our minds. David said of his enemies, "Nothing they say is true! They just want to destroy. Their words are deceitful like a hidden pit, and their tongues are good only for telling lies." Surely he needed God's help as do we in our daily struggles.

David prayed to God because he knew God would bless the righteous. (Psalm 5:10-12) David prayed for God to punish the wicked. He even asked God to get rid of them! His reason was that they kept on committing crimes and turning against the Almighty. He knew God would bless the righteous so he prayed, "Let all who run to you for protection always sing joyful songs. Provide shelter for those who truly love you and let them rejoice." David said, "For thou, LORD, wilt bless the righteous; with favour wilt thou compass him as with a shield." Are you doing your best to be righteous so that God can answer your prayers and bless you?

Will you accept God's wonderful good news that Jesus died for your sins? Will you be baptized into Christ to put on Christ so that your sins can be forgiven by His blood? "For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ." (Galatians 3:26-27) Believers contact Christ's saving blood by being baptized into His death. Once you have become a Christian and are living faithful to God you can pray and know that your prayers will be answered.
