AMERICA WANTS GOD’S BLESSINGS, BUT DOES NOT WANT GOD
The Bible says, “Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD; and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance.” (Psalms 33:12) In this time of all kinds of evil, people still cry “God Bless America.” Our people are a strange people; even those who do not believe in God want His blessings. Who would have ever believed that our land would be filled with so many anti-God philosophies? Sadly, people want God’s blessings but they do not want Him. We cannot be delivered from moral bankruptcy of our day unless individual lives are transformed by the power of Christ.
Abortion is proof that Americans do not want God. There is nothing in America any more godless than the practice of abortion. We are guilty as a nation for allowing these barbaric killing to continue. “These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.” (Proverbs 6:16-19) Abortion is the shedding of innocent, human blood.
Drunkenness and other addictions are proof that Americans do not want God. “Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.” (Proverbs 20:1) Drunkenness causes liver disease, kills brain cells, weakens the heart and leads to an early grave. While under the power of alcohol or other drugs the person is mentally deranged. This demon brings a man and his family to crumbs and rags. Drunkenness has many evil companions: (1) sexual sins, (2) lies, (3) fighting and many others. Those under the power of this demon are unreliable and ready to harm even their best friend.
Homosexuality is proof that Americans do not want God. Homosexuals have received much positive publicity. This has led to social acceptance and even to same sex marriages. However, remember, many things which are gladly accepted by man are abhorred by God. God loves homosexuals, but He hates their homosexuality. Homosexuals can be saved; but in order to go to heaven they must repent of their sin and turn in humble and complete obedience to God's will. If one chooses to continue in homosexuality he will spend eternity separated from God. "Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination." (Leviticus 18:22)
Gambling is proof that Americans do not want God. Gambling is motivated by selfishness, covetousness and greed. (Luke 12:15, Romans 12:10) Gambling demands a trust in chance and material things. Gambling does not involve a trust in God and His will. (Matthew 6:19-34, Luke 12:13-21) Gambling is contrary to both the first and second greatest commandments. (Matthew 22:37-40) Gambling goes against God's work ethic and is not good stewardship. (Ephesians 4:28, Galatians 6:9-10) Gambling violates the Golden Rule. "Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets." (Matthew 7:12)
There are many other proofs that Americans do not want God. Many are given over to filthy language, adultery and fornication. Satan has convinced countless people to not study the Bible. He does not want people to find spiritual light and understanding. He has caused others to be spiritually indifferent. He has filled our ears with filthy music and our T.V. and movies with all kinds of evil and yet we say, “God bless America.” We want God’s blessings but we do not want God.
Let us arise and fight Satan. You must become a child of God and stand strong in the faith. To become a Christian you must hear the gospel (Romans 10:17); believe in Jesus (John 8:24); repent of sins “Truly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent.” (Acts 17:30), Confess Christ as Lord, “that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” (Romans 10:9-10); and be baptized to be saved. (I Peter 3:21) After baptism give Satan a fight!
