Five Sobering Bible Truths

The Bible is God's Word. It is true from cover to cover. God's great truths are for both time and eternity. Following are five very sobering Bible truths that should help in our preparation for eternity.

Jehovah God is the one true and real God. The first words of the Bible speak of God. "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." (Genesis 1:1) Only a fool would say there is no God and only a fool would say no to God. "The fool has said in his heart, 'There is no God.' They are corrupt, They have done abominable works, There is none who does good." (Psalm 14:1)

The Bible is the only inspired word from God. "All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work." (2 Timothy 3:16-17) The Bible is simple, profound, beautiful, deep and powerful.  It will not pass away. (Matthew 24:35) We do not need other books in addition to the Bible.

There is no salvation outside of Jesus Christ. Jesus came to save His people from sin. "And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins." (Matthew 1:21.) Jesus’ mission was that of seeking and saving the lost. (Luke 19:10) There is no other in whom salvation is found. "Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved." (Acts 4:12)

Even though all could be saved only a few accept the salvation that Jesus offers. God desires the salvation of everyone. (1 Timothy 2:4) Even though God's desire is for all to come to repentance the majority of mankind is still lost. “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.” (Matthew 7:13-14)

You must obey the gospel of Christ to be saved. God's vengeance will be taken on those who obey not the Gospel of Christ. (2 Thessalonians 1:8-10) To obey the gospel one must hear the gospel (Romans 10:17), believe in Jesus as the Christ (John 8:24), repent of sins (Acts 17:30), confess Jesus as Lord and Christ (Acts 8:37), and be baptized to be saved. (1 Peter 3:21)

Have you obeyed the gospel?  Are you faithful to God?  If you died today would you go to heaven? If not the blood of Jesus makes it possible for you to do something about your salvation now.
