Why Live Godly?

The world equates godliness to funlessness.  This is a shame because the idea that Christians lead an unenjoyable life is completely false. Christians know that to live a righteous life brings happiness truer than any happiness found in the world. The Bible teaches, “Light is sown for the righteous, and gladness for the upright in heart” (Psalm 97:11). Yes, the Christian’s cup is full with happiness. God does not shield us from all suffering, but it is in His service that we find true happiness. There are many benefits one receives from living a godly life, happiness being one of them, but the one gift that is beyond our deserving is that eternal reward of Heaven. We should all want to live our lives in a way that Heaven will be our home when this life is over.

Heaven’s beauty is beyond our understanding.  Peter wrote, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you” (1 Peter 1:3-4). We can arrive in Heaven after this life if we are faithful to God in this life. In God’s Word we read “be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life” (Revelation 2:10).

We all want that home of Heaven, so let us do what God’s Word teaches to be obedient.  Hearing God’s Word, let us believe that Jesus is the Son of God. “I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins” (John 8:24). Be penitent and confess your belief.  “I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish” (Luke 13:3). And, “be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord” (Acts 22:16). If you are faithful, Heaven will be yours. Let us live for Heaven.
